Delaware River District Klondike Derby: Canceled

Klondike Derby Sled

Unfortunately this years Klondike Derby for our district has been canceled due to extremely low registrations. Our unit responded with 10 people planned to attend, however our unit alone does not make or break an event.  We will consider attending one of the two below mentioned Klondikes from our neighbouring districts, however with this last-minute change there is no guarantee we will be able to attend.

EVENT CANCELLATION: Delaware River District Klondike Derby
LOCATION: Camp Akenac Park, Pennsylvania Route 739, Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania 18328
DATE: Saturday, February 3rd, 2018 – Sunday, February 4th, 2018
WHO: Boy Scouts, Crew Scouts, Arrow of Light Cub Scouts, All Leaders and All Parents

To all Boy Scout Units, Crew Units, Cub Scout Units, All Leaders and Parents,

It is with great regret that I must inform everyone within our district that the 2018 Klondike Derby for our district has been cancelled. I have made the decision based on the available feedback from possible participants and the lack of units and Scouts available for this years event. I am available to discuss this via phone or e-mail if you did NOT attend roundtable and get my explanations and hope that for any future events we can remedy these hurdles.

If you are still looking to attend a Klondike or Freeze-o-ree event, the Rockland and Heritage Districts are both holding events and can be found on the Hudson Valley Council Calendar for registration, as well as the available event guides.

I will look to continue to plan and do an event within our district prior to the summer camping series and hope we can put something else together such as a sports event or a field trip that units can participate in. I am asking for volunteers to form a district program planning committee where we can help plan, communicate and coordinate events for Cubs, Boys and Venture units throughout our district. If you are interested, please let me know and I will add your name to the notification lists. I try and do as many meetings as possible via teleconference or video teleconference to ensure high availability and ease of access (less travel) for volunteers.

Yours in Scouting,
